Thank you for the shout, Susan. In my talks about generational use of social media, I often share how impressed I have been by Gen Y bloggers. If you do not know her, you might enjoy discovering Tiffany Munhollon at Personal PR http://tiffanymonhollon.com/blog/

Keep up the good work!

Great photo Susan, such a fantastic moment. Great color and an interesting off-kilter composition.

Two suggestions: First, when shooting against a bright background like this your camera will try to for a medium exposure through the scene. You'll wind up with what you have here, where the baby's face is just a touch too dark. Think about adding maybe a stop of exposure compensation. This will tell the camera to let a little more light in, you may have an over exposed sky, but the point of this photo is the baby's face anyway.

Second, and you may already be doing this, but for single person portraits I like to shoot in Aperture Priority or Manual mode and shoot at the widest aperture my lens has (unless I'm shooting a prime, at 1.8 the Depth of Field is *very* shallow). This will give you a nice smooth out of focus background, drawing the viewer's eye to your subject. If you shoot wide enough even the baby's dress will start to blur, really drawing attention to the face.

Again, nice shot. Thanks for sharing.
